Food Supplements
UK food law requires a UK-established business named on your label: the Food Business Operator who takes responsibility for your product. Taylored acts as that FBO for overseas supplement brands, with the compliance work behind it, so marketplaces and authorities see a real regulatory partner, not a letterbox.
Registered, reachable and responsible. Amazon and TikTok Shop ready from day one.

It usually arrives at listing time, or just after the first sales spike: a request from Amazon UK, TikTok Shop or a distributor for the details of your UK Food Business Operator. Brands in Italy, Spain, Germany, Canada and the United States hit the same wall every week, often with stock already on the water.
The request is not a platform quirk. UK food law requires that every food, including food supplements, sold in the UK carries the name and address of a UK-established business that is responsible for it. If your company is outside the UK, that business has to be someone else.
The platforms have simply started checking. They ask for the FBO's details, a compliant UK label and, increasingly, evidence that the business behind the name is real. A listing that cannot show them is paused, and paused listings do not sell.
This page explains what the Food Business Operator role actually involves, what separates a proper FBO from an address in a mailbox, and what our service includes. The Amazon-specific requirements have their own guide.
Every food business operating in the UK must be registered with its local authority before it starts trading. The FBO is that registered business: the one the authority knows about and can inspect.
UK labelling rules require the name and address of the responsible food business on every pack. For an overseas brand that is the UK FBO's name, which is why an address alone looks tempting and why it is not enough.
The FBO carries legal responsibility for the food it places on the market: that it is safe, correctly labelled, free of unauthorised novel food ingredients and making only claims that are permitted. That responsibility does not disappear because the FBO is a letterbox.
Food supplements do not have a Responsible Person in the cosmetics sense. Searching for one leads to the wrong service; the role you need is the FBO.
Two kinds of company will offer to be your UK FBO. They are priced differently because they are different things.
Lends you a UK name and address for the label and the listing. Nothing is checked, nobody reviews your formulation or claims, and if Trading Standards or the platform asks a question it is forwarded to you. The legal responsibility still sits with the name on the pack, and the risk sits with your brand.
Takes the FBO role knowingly: registers the business, reviews your label and formulation before listing, screens for novel food ingredients and claims problems, prepares the documents the platforms ask for and answers the authority when it calls. That is what Taylored does.
Ask what they will review before your product goes on sale, who answers a Trading Standards enquiry, and whether they have ever declined to be FBO for a product. A partner has answers to all three.
An address is cheaper on the invoice. It is not cheaper after a paused listing, a border hold or a product withdrawal.
Our FBO service for overseas supplement brands includes:
A UK business name and address for your label and marketplace listings
Food business registration with the local authority, handled by us
A label and formulation screen before listing, including a novel food ingredient check
A claims check against what is permitted in Great Britain
The document pack Amazon UK and TikTok Shop ask sellers to upload
A named contact who answers if a local authority or the platform gets in touch
Full label reviews for new artwork and market-specific versions are available as a separate service, so you only pay for them when you need them.
Amazon does not approve supplements, but it will suspend listings that cannot show the right details. What it checks is short: a UK-established FBO on the label and the listing, a compliant UK label, no unauthorised novel food ingredients and claims that are legal in Great Britain.
TikTok Shop applies the same law with a different upload flow. Both platforms ask for label images and responsible-party details at listing and can re-check after a competitor report, which is why the documents need to be right before the first shipment rather than after.
Our guide to selling supplements on Amazon UK walks through the four checks, what gets sellers suspended and how we get you live.
Send us your artwork and get back a marked-up label and a clear fix list: mandatory statements, nutrition declaration, claims and novel food flags, ready for print or a marketplace listing.
FBO cover is a fixed annual fee, agreed in writing before you appoint us. What moves it is the number of products and variants you sell in the UK and how much screening your labels and formulations need before they are ready. Full label reviews are quoted separately, per label, only when you need them.
We do not publish a rate card, because a brand with two finished products and one with thirty unlabelled ones are not the same job. What you get is a price for your actual range, in writing, with a clear note of what would change it.
If your current FBO is an address that has never looked at your products, or a provider that forwards every question to you, moving is straightforward. We register, review your range and take over the name on your label at the next print run, with a plan for selling through existing stock.
Tell us what you have today and we will say what needs to change and what does not.
There is no product registration for food supplements, but the business responsible for the product must be registered as a Food Business Operator with its local authority, and your label must carry a UK business name and address. That is exactly what this service provides.
An address alone does not make you compliant. The named FBO carries legal responsibility for the product. If it is a letterbox, that responsibility still sits with you, and marketplaces increasingly check whether the business behind the name is real.
UK responsible-party details for the listing, plus a compliant UK label, and sometimes evidence for specific ingredients or claims. We prepare the documents sellers are asked to upload, so listings do not stall.
No. The Responsible Person is a cosmetics and medical devices role. For food supplements the equivalent is the Food Business Operator. If you sell cosmetics as well, we provide both under one roof.
The UK FBO covers Great Britain. Northern Ireland follows EU food law under the Windsor Framework, and sales into the EU need an EU-established food business operator. We can advise on both, and act for brands selling into several markets.
Our food supplements team reviews formulations, labels and claims against UK law every day, answers marketplace compliance requests every week and knows what a local authority will ask. Appointing us as FBO gives your listing a real business behind the name, and your brand a partner who picks up the phone.
